Possibly, you are aware of the fact that the third-generation X-Trail is a very meaningful product of Nissan, yet, how important? The fact is, however, that nowadays, it is, perhaps, the most important model of the Japanese brand in the world.
To start with, it operates in what is currently the most crucial segment in the global market: C-segment SUVs. And secondly, due to the fact that the third and present generation has been an actual sales phenomenon. As a matter of fact, in 2016 and 2017, it scooped the best selling SUV in the world with 766,729 and 814,495 units sold respectively.
This is the reverse of the traditional passenger cars which have only made 39 percent of total sales this year despite the increase of the pickups and SUVs. In 2012, they represented 52%! The Honda Accord has been the dominant force that has been enjoying the fact that the Toyota Camry is on the verge of redesign.
In the table of rankings of the manufacturers, the outcome proved to be rather close with Ford being at the first spots with 1% decrease as Chevrolet won the silver medal achieving a terrific 13% growth. One such grower was Jaguar with an incredible growth rate of +259% which is making inroads in this market owing to good performance of the F-Pace.
Regarding the mechanical, Nissan is holding the existing X-Trail line, with dCi diesel engines with 130 and 177 horsepower and the 1.6-liter gasoline engine with 163 hp. Pricing of the new X-Trail, as well as the equipment levels of each version, have not yet been made public, but will be announced prior to the launch of the model in August.
This form of transmission will be provided in front-wheel drive, but the all-wheel drive will be welcomed by the drivers who want to make most out of their vehicle when off-roading. It is quite simple to drive, as there is a dial that is placed between the front seats and has a Lock option of the center differential that enables one to have confidence when handling the car in difficult terrain. Nissan is correct when it claims that the 2.0 dCi is the best choice in its collection to those who at times trailers or caravans since it will draw a maximum of 2,000 kg in manual model and 1,650 in the automatic model.
Its redesigned exterior gives it a new, high quality, premium appearance that is complemented with its outstanding functionality. The X-Trail has the most desirable size with a combination of 2,705 mm wheelbase and short front and rear overhang, and is made up 15.2 mm long, 1,710 mm high, and 1,820 mm wide compared to the former generation X-Trail. In addition, the rear doors have been planned with a larger opening (77 degrees), which enables one to enter and exit the rear passenger compartment easily.
Some of the notable exterior characteristics include the halogen headlights and the unique and advanced daytime running lights which are already a signature of Nissan giving it a strong presence. It also provides body-colored side mirrors, which have inbuilt turn signals and a spoiler at the back. Nissan X-Trail 2015 also has availability of self-leveling LEDs of the Headlights, fog lights, privacy glass, roof rails, heated exterior mirrors and power tailgate.
This first update will be required before, similar to the Qashqai, it receives a facelift in the midpoint of next year, and is presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017.
It should have a more expressive front end. The changes made should be minimal in-house. The Japanese SUV requires this refresh as two new competitors will join the market next spring: the Peugeot 5008 II and the Renault Koleos II not to mention an outsider, Skoda Kodiaq.
